What's changing
After July 30, TextNow Wireless cellular coverage will no longer be available outside of the United States, impacting those currently using a TextNow SIM in Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. This is a network infrastructure decision, not a change to your account or your relationship with TextNow.
What you keep
Here's exactly what's on your account after July 30:
- Your TextNow number will remain yours for 3 months, free. We're locking in your number so you have time to figure out your next step without any pressure. No action is required to hold it.
- Unlimited talk and text over Wi-Fi—no charge. Calling and texting keep working on any Wi-Fi connection, exactly the way they do now. Nothing changes there.
- 3 months of Ad-Free+ on us. No ads. No interruptions. Just a smooth experience while you're on Wi-Fi. This lands on your account automatically—no code necessary.
What this doesn't mean
- This is not TextNow shutting down. TextNow is here.
- This is not your account being closed.
- This is not a demotion. You're not losing your number, your history, or your plan—you're moving to a Wi-Fi-first setup that we're covering for 3 months.
FAQ
Can I keep my phone number if I move to a different carrier?
Yes. You can port your TextNow number out to any carrier that supports service in your region. Your number will be held on your account for 3 months at no cost while Ad-Free+ is active.
How do I port my number to a new carrier?
You can open a chat with our support team to request your port out information to share with your new carrier. Agents are available every day from 10 AM - 5:30 PM (Eastern), you can click on the purple chat bubble at the bottom of any Help Center page to get started.
Will I lose my number if I don’t act right away?
Your number is locked in for 3 months at no cost while Ad-Free+ is active on your account. You can also continue to text and call over Wi-Fi to keep your number on your TextNow account.
Does this affect Wi-Fi calling and texting?
Not at all. Wi-Fi calling and texting continue to work exactly as they do now on any Wi-Fi connection.
What if I need cellular service after July 30?
If you depend on cellular coverage in Canada, Mexico, or Puerto Rico, we recommend porting your number to a local carrier that supports your area. You have 3 months of Ad-Free+ to make that move while your number stays safe on your TextNow account.
