How Activation Check Works
1. With your SIM Card inserted in the device, open the TextNow app and select Activate your SIM Card from the menu. You can also access activation by tapping this link.
2. You'll be prompted to turn off your device's Wi-Fi connection and once you've done so, check the box to confirm your Wi-Fi is off then click the purple Check My ConnectIon button on the bottom of the page.
3. After the connection is checked, you'll be taken to a page letting you know if your SIM was successfully activated or if you may need to do some troubleshooting and try again.
If your SIM activation fails, there are a few common troubleshooting steps you can try.
Make sure Wi-Fi was successfully turned off and you're not on Airplane Mode
It doesn’t hurt to double-check that your device’s Wi-Fi connection is completely turned off and your Mobile Data is turned on, then try activating again. Keep in mind that if Airplane Mode is on, your Mobile Data will be disconnected so we won't be able to check your connection.
Check whether the APN settings are set correctly
You might have needed to manually enter the Access Point Name settings on your device, in which case you may want to verify that the fields match the instructions outlined here. If you haven’t already, you could also try filling out the additional fields shown in the troubleshooting section below the APN instructions.
Make sure your device is unlocked
TextNow SIM cards can only be activated in unlocked devices. If you purchased your phone from a carrier and haven’t gone through the process of unlocking it, there is a good chance that it is still locked to that carrier and cannot be used with a different phone provider until it is unlocked. For more information about how to check if your device is locked and how to unlock it, check out this blog post.
Make sure the SIM is inserted properly
It might help to take the SIM out and ensure that it is properly seated flush with the SIM tray to make sure the device can recognize it. If you're confused about the different SIM sizes that come with your activation package, check out this article.
If you’re using a dual-SIM device with multiple SIMs inserted, make sure your TextNow SIM is enabled. Some dual-sim devices allow you to have both SIMs enabled at the same time, but others only allow one active SIM at a time.
Has the SIM Been Activated Before?
